Chitra Centre for Performing Arts is a premiere dance institution founded in the year 1981 by Guru Smt Jayanthi Thyagarajan and is currently under the creative directorship of Smt.Chitra Vinodh who has a passionate vision to promote the ancient and traditional art form of Bharatanatyam.It is dedicated towards conducting extensive research, study and practice of the art form thereby upholding the cultural heritage of our country.
At this institution, budding talent is nurtured and trained thus making every move a joyous experience. Training is dedicated at imparting education in Bharatanatyam with its true essence and aesthetics to students with a vision of developing them into the future pioneers in this field.
Rooted in the traditional Vazhavoor style, the institute is constantly exploring newer dimensions of the art form using innovative approaches keeping the traditional techniques intact. With the active participation of all students, the institute organizes various shows and unique productions every year thus providing a platform for the students to exploit their talent and emerge as professional artists. CCPA consciously extends its activities in the fields of providing financial assistance to the various charitable institutions by organizing charity shows.
To inculcate the knowledge of Indian tradition, students are taught compositions based on mythological and literary texts. In order to ensure that the students explore all the nuances of dance, they are made to appear for the various examinations, after which they attain a level of proficiency in the art form. Various seminars and workshops are also conducted emphasizing the basics and theoretical aspects of dance. An additional training on Thalas and rhythmic patterns related to dance is given to the students of the advanced levels. The institute has to its credit an excellent track record by training selected students of good caliber for the Arangetram and Rangabhivandane.
Chitra Centre for Performing Arts is an empaneled institution by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Govt.of India under the category – Bharatanatyam Group.
A few of the experienced senior students take a further step in their training by being exposed to the many facets of dance including its choreography,music,synchronization patterns and presentation thereby blossoming into complete individual dancers. Proficient guidance and incessant training have enabled them to appear as graded Doordarshan artists.
By bringing out the true essence of Indian Dance, the institute wishes to carve a niche for itself in the field of Bharatanatyam with the blessings of all Gurus and well wishers thereby achieving their motto-“Every Move Nurtures Excellence”.
